(Cricket News) The U-23 team was returning to Rajkot from Chandigarh on January 25 after winning the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy. The team’s possession of liquor bottles was discovered, and the Chandigarh Airport authorities swiftly seized the contraband because Gujarat is a dry state, meaning that carrying alcohol is strictly prohibited.
The discovery of the liquor bottles came to the attention of the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA), which has launched a disciplinary investigation into the matter as a result.
The Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) expressed their dismay and deemed the incident to be related to the dry state policy of Gujarat, which forbids the possession and transportation of alcohol within its borders.
The SCA issued a statement expressing their dismay and deeming the incident. The cricket association promptly ordered the Ethics/Disciplinary Committee and Apex Council to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
“The alleged incident is unfortunate and intolerable. Ethics/Disciplinary Committee & Apex Council of Saurashtra Cricket Association to make in-depth examine of the incident and shall take proper disciplinary action,” the statement read.
While alcohol imports are strictly prohibited in Gujarat, visitors are granted permits by the state government to purchase alcohol from approved establishments. Despite this exemption, the U23 cricketers’ alleged actions remain unacceptable, and the SCA is committed to taking appropriate action against them.
