(Cricket News) Australia’s all-rounder, Cameron Green, disclosed that he has been managing a stage two chronic kidney disease since his newborn days. Opening up about his condition during a video segment aired on the first day of the Test match between Australia and Pakistan in Perth, Green explained that the disease was diagnosed early, with no apparent symptoms but detected through ultrasounds.

Detailing the nature of chronic kidney disease, Green clarified, “Chronic kidney disease is basically a progressive disease of your kidney’s health function. Unfortunately, mine doesn’t filter the blood as well as other kidneys. So they’re about at 60% now, which is stage 2.” He explained the five stages of chronic kidney disease, with stage one being the least severe and stage five requiring transplant or dialysis. Fortunately, Green is at stage two, but he emphasized the need for proper care to prevent regression.

Green’s mother, Bee Tracey, shared the initial shock of discovering the condition during a 19-week scan, noting a thickening of his bladder due to a urethral valve blockage. Despite the diagnosis, Green has largely navigated his playing career without significant impact from the condition. However, he recalled an ODI match in September 2022 when cramping during a long day of bowling and batting raised awareness about the potential influence of his kidney issue.

Not part of the playing XI in the current Australian summer opener against Pakistan, Green took the opportunity to bring attention to his condition. He expressed his desire to help others and raise awareness about chronic kidney disease. Meanwhile, David Warner’s unbeaten 72 from 67 deliveries set a strong start for Australia in the series opener, reaching 117 without loss in the first session. Green’s absence from the playing XI was notable as the Australian team commenced their summer campaign in Perth, following recent victories in the Cricket World Cup and the World Test Championship final.
