(Cricket News) Uganda, the fifth African country to compete in the competition’s history, defeated Rwanda by nine wickets to secure a spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier and secure a ticket to the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. Uganda’s five victories from six matches secured a top-two finish. They will be participating in an ICC World Cup event for the first time ever.

While captain Sikandar Raza’s 48* starred for his side, Uganda’s bowling effort led by Dinesh Nakrani (3/14) restricted the Chevrons to 136/7 during the chase. The Cricket Cranes were guided by Riazat Ali Shah (42) and Alpesh Ramjani (40).

They won with five wickets to spare in a major upset in the qualifiers. Uganda had defeated Tanzania by a comfortable margin of eight wickets in their opening game. However, in the next game, Namibian all-rounder David Wiese’s brilliant 4/17 handed them a six-wicket defeat.

Encouraged by this performance, the team easily defeated Nigeria before defeating Kenya by 33 runs to secure a spot in the T20 World Cup. They then easily defeated Rwanda by nine wickets, thanks to some excellent bowling that saw Rwanda dismissed for just 65 runs before the ninth over mark chased the target down.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, missed the bus to the Twenty20 competition. Zimbabwe lost to Namibia and Uganda. The team played in the previous tournament and defeated Pakistan by a legendary one-run margin.
