(Cricket News) For the five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Australia that begins on November 23, 2023, in Visakhapatnam, Suryakumar Yadav has been named captain of the India cricket team. The team has a new look as most of the players who competed for India in the Cricket World Cup have been rested. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the opener, has been named vice-captain for the series against the newly crowned Twenty20 International (ODI) champions. The hosts selected just three players from the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup squad: Prasidh Krishna, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar. However, Shreyas Iyer will join the squad for the final two T20Is in Raipur and Bengaluru, taking over Gaikwad’s vice-captain position.
The second Twenty20 International (T20I) will be held in Thiruvananthapuram, while the third T20I will be held in Guwahati. Sanju Samson is left off of the squad, and among the players selected, the performances of players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Rinku Singh will be closely monitored as India enters a phase where they would want to give fresh faces a chance, with the 2024 T20 World Cup a year away.
Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, and Ravi Bishnoi are among the bowlers; they have all represented India and have sufficient T20 experience. The all-rounders in the team are Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Shivam Dubey. The backup wicketkeeper is Jitesh Sharma.
The players who were chosen for the Indian squad are star players in the Indian Premier League. The BCCI selectors have indicated that they want to give the younger players more time in the T20I format, so the players will be keen to lock down their spot for a longer period of time, especially with the T20 World Cup in 2024 approaching.
