Here is how Pakistan can qualify for the semi-finals

A look at the possibilities that might see Pakistan advance to the semifinals of the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

Pakistan was left staring at an unlikely scenario on Thursday, when New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets with 26.4 overs remaining in the Cricket World Cup 2023. Nothing can prevent the Kiwis from securing the fourth and final semifinal berth, barring enormous victories for Pakistan against England. Australia, South Africa, India, and South Africa have already guaranteed their places in the last four, while New Zealand has advanced to the next round following their convincing victory against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan, who have played eight games and are currently ranked fifth in the standings, will play England in Kolkata on Saturday. If they bat first, they will need to win by 287 runs. Pakistan will need to win with 284 balls—more than 47 overs—to spare if they choose to chase.

However, there is a certain matchup in the second semifinal between South Africa and Australia, the five-time winners, who, along with India, have one more match left in the league stage.

India, who have won all eight of their league games thus far, will be overwhelming favourites to defeat the Netherlands in this Sunday’s final group match.
