South Africa have been exceptional in this World Cup and have broken many records in their campaign.
South Africa

South Africa have been amazing in this World Cup as they stand in the second position in the points table with 12 points and an astounding run rate of +2.290. During this amazing campaign, they have also broken many records with their hard-hitting batsman and fiery bowlers. With that being said, let us look at the records broken by South Africa in the 2023 World Cup.

Team sixes in a Cricket World Cup: 82

With two or four matches remaining, South Africa currently maintains the record for the most sixes clubbed by a team in a Men’s Cricket World Cup. In their convincing victory over New Zealand, the Proteas blasted 15 sixes, bringing their tournament total to 82 from seven games.
Prior to winning the 2019 Cricket World Cup, England hit 76 runs in 11 matches, a record that South Africa has now surpassed.

Prior to that, the record was held by the West Indies, who scored 68 team sixes in 2015, while the all-conquering Australia squad scored 67 in 2007. With at least three rounds remaining and 61 sixes already struck in six matches at the current Cricket World Cup, the five-time champions are certain to rank higher on this list.

Wickets taken in the powerplay: 12

All-rounder Marco Jansen, who has been driving South Africa’s strong starts with the ball, made his mark early in the competition against England with a blistering 75*. In order to guarantee that South Africa seizes control early in the opposition innings, the left-arm fast has captured 12 wickets during the Powerplay, more than doubling the total of the next best bowler.

With Dilshan Madushanka of Sri Lanka claiming six wickets during the Powerplay, pace has emerged as the most important weapon in the first ten overs. Josh Hazlewood of Australia, with five, is slightly ahead of Jasprit Bumrah of India, Shaheen Afridi of Pakistan, and injured England fast Reece Topley (all four).

Individual hundreds in a Cricket World Cup: 4

De Kock opened the tournament with consecutive hundreds against Australia and Sri Lanka. Since then, he has added two more hundreds, including 114 against New Zealand in yet another impressive performance.

With 174 against Bangladesh, the South Africa opener also holds the record for the highest individual score at the Cricket World Cup thus far. De Kock’s four centuries currently tie Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka’s record for most hundreds in a single edition of the grand event (2015).

With five hundreds in 2019, India opener and current captain Rohit Sharma holds the record, but with two – potentially even four – innings remaining, the highly effective de Kock will fancy his chances of at least matching that total.

Individual runs in a Cricket World Cup: 545 runs

Due to his recent form, South Africa’s Quinton De Kock has broken the record for most runs scored at a Cricket World Cup. With 545 runs after seven innings in a single tournament, the left-hander in form leads all other players. In addition, De Kock’s total has eclipsed Jacques Kallis’s 2007 record of 485 runs scored by a South African batter during a Cricket World Cup.

De Kock can now go for India great Sachin Tendulkar’s record of the most runs in a Cricket World Cup, which he set in 2003 with 673, with two matches remaining for South Africa in the group stage and probably more in the knockout play.

Team hundreds in a Cricket World Cup: 8

The Proteas have tied the record for most hundreds by a side at a Cricket World Cup after Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen both scored hundreds against New Zealand. With two more games remaining, the South African batting lineup will have a chance to break the record set by Sri Lanka in 2015. With four tons to his credit, De Kock is the leader. Van der Dussen, who began the tournament with 108 against Sri Lanka, now has two centuries.

After hitting a century off of 49 balls against Sri Lanka, Aiden Markram set a record for the fastest century at a Cricket World Cup. Later, Heinrich Klaasen punished England with a quick 109.

Double-century partnerships at Cricket World Cups: 2

With a 200-run partnership between De Kock and van der Dussen against New Zealand, South Africa was able to seize control of the heavyweight match. After scoring 204 runs against Sri Lanka, it was the pair’s second double-century partnership of the tournament, and they currently share the most 200-plus run stands.

In 2011, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga also shared two partnerships of more over 200 runs; no other pair has achieved this feat more than once, even throughout several Cricket World Cups.

350-plus team totals in a Cricket World Cup: 4

South Africa have become the first team to score four 350-plus scores in a single Cricket World Cup, after plundering runs against Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and New Zealand.
