(Motorsports news) The Alpine boosted their income from £201,485,000 in 2021 to £249,038,000 last year, a 23.6% increase, thanks to the entrance of new title sponsor BWT and the prize money linked with fourth place in the world championship. The Alpine’s cost of sales, which measures how much it spent on its total operation, increased at a slower rate of 21.6%, from £145,264,000 to £170,395,000.
The group states that “whilst operations have been impacted by inflation, a second year of financial regulations coupled with a disciplined approach to cost control has led to an improvement in operating margin of 37%, resulting in an operating profit of £36.6m.” This sum was £9.5m higher than in 2021, however the total post-tax profit of £26,214,000 was really £2.9m lower.
The figures also reveal that Renault’s marketing contribution to the team’s turnover declined from £60.6 million to £42.2 million, reflecting greater revenue from other sources. Enstone’s headcount increased from 820 in 2021 to 871 in 2022 as the team expanded, however the increase was primarily in administrative, with only 14 personnel added in engineering and manufacturing.
The headline figure contrasts with Alpine’s close on-track rival Aston Martin, which officially employed only 504 employees in 2022. The Silverstone team today buys transmissions and other equipment from Mercedes and outsources manufacture and other services, resulting in a smaller full-time crew. During the 2022 season, Renault briefly took full control of the team through its subsidiary Grigny (UK).
It bought the little shareholding retained by Genii following the sale of the then-Lotus firm to the French manufacturer in 2015. As previously reported, the Alpine now has new shareholders after three financial companies, Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners, and Maximum Effort Investments, purchased 24% of the company this summer, with Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds among those engaged.
