(Football news) Real Sociedad, who are also unblemished this season, are in eighth place with six points after four games, trailing only Carlo Ancelotti’s team, who are in first place with 12 points. Real Madrid has been incredibly effective so far this season, winning four straight games against Athletic Bilbao, Almeria, Celta Vigo, and Getafe to sit atop the league two points ahead of second-placed Girona. Real Madrid hasn’t exactly been playing Champagne Football in the early stages of the season.

Jude Bellingham has been the star of the show thus far, scoring five goals in his first four games, including a dramatic late-game victory against Getafe before the international break. While Los Blancos will kick off their Champions League group stage campaign with a home match against Union Berlin next week, they are currently vying to reclaim the La Liga championship from Barcelona this season.

Then there is the trivial matter of the La Liga matchup between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on September 24. Ancelotti’s team will travel to the magnificent Wanda Metropolitano stadium. Given their season-opening performance, Los Blancos will be eager to demonstrate that their momentum has not been halted by the international break, which arrived at the worst time.

However, Real Madrid has lost 2-0 to Real Sociedad in each of their last six La Liga meetings, and they have only won two of those six games overall. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad earned a point at the Bernabeu last season, and the Basque team also has a recent away league victory over Real Madrid on their credit—a 2-0 victory during the 2018–19 season.

With six points from four games and an undefeated record, Imanol Alguacil’s team sits in eighth place in the standings going into the upcoming slate of games. Before collecting their first victory prior to the international break, Real Sociedad drew three consecutive games against Girona, Celta Vigo, and Las Palmas in August. They then defeated Granada 5-3 at home.

The White and Blues, who placed fourth in La Liga last season, were actually 5-1 up against Granada when the visitors made a late comeback attempt, but they were still able to secure a crucial three points. Real Sociedad will begin their Champions League group-stage campaign the following week. The Basque team is scheduled to play Inter Milan in their section opener.

Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois, Arda Guler, and Vinicius Junior are now on the sidelines after suffering injuries early in the current campaign for Real Madrid. In the early weeks of the season, Ferland Mendy and Dani Ceballos were both out as well, but the two are now back in full training and may be included in the squad for this game.

Since Vinicius’ recent problem has given Joselu the opportunity to play alongside Rodrygo in a front two, there shouldn’t be any significant surprises in the starting lineup for the home team. While Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are not expected to play in the midfield, Bellingham will once again start ahead of them. Fran Garcia will likely start at left back as well.

With Ancelotti’s team playing in the Spanish capital, Real Sociedad will be without Martin Merquelanz and Andre Silva. In the absence of Umar Sadiq, who is anticipated to recover from an injury and be available, Mikel Oyarzabal might play as the centre forward, as he did against Granada the previous time they met.

Takefusa Kubo, who scored a pair of goals against Granada, is expected to play against his previous club if head coach Alguacil opts to stick with the same starting lineup from the team’s game before the break.
