(Football News) Al Nassr, the Saudi Pro League club, announced the signing of Ivory Coast midfielder Seko Fofana from Ligue 1 team RC Lens. Fofana’s contract with Al Nassr extends until 2026; however, the financial specifics of the deal were not disclosed. According to French media reports, the transfer fee is estimated to be around 25 million euros ($28.10 million).
The club shared the news on Twitter, stating, “Al Nassr has officially acquired the services of the Ivorian star Seko Fofana. We extend our best wishes to him along with our other talented players.”
After joining Lens in 2020, the 28-year-old midfielder made a significant impact by scoring 21 goals and providing 11 assists in 112 appearances. His contributions were instrumental in helping the club solidify their position in the top division of French football.
Arnaud Pouille, the managing director of Lens, expressed his admiration for Fofana’s commitment, stating, “Seko arrived when the club was newly promoted, with the ambition to help it regain its prominence and make a mark on the continental stage.” Pouille also conveyed gratitude and respect for Fofana’s accomplishments, revealing that the midfielder will soon become the first player to transition from a player to a shareholder, highlighting his deep connection to Racing.
Fofana’s move to Al Nassr adds him to the growing list of European-based players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo Brozovic, Ghislain Konan, and David Ospina, who have found the Saudi Pro League club to be an appealing destination.
Last week, FIFA announced that Al Nassr, who secured the second position in the league during the previous season, had been prohibited from registering new players owing to unresolved debts. The club was required to settle an amount of 460,000 euros ($516,948) owed to Leicester City for the acquisition of Nigerian forward Ahmed Musa in order to have the ban lifted.
FIFA stated that once the debts are confirmed to be settled by the respective creditors, the applicable bans will be promptly lifted.
