(Hockey News) In the men’s match between Argentina and India, the first half ended without any goals being scored. However, in the third quarter, India managed to earn their first penalty corner, and it was their captain, Harmanpreet Singh, who broke the deadlock with a powerful drag into the bottom right corner of the goal. This goal not only gave India the lead but also extended Harmanpreet’s dominance at the top of the scoring chart, with a total of nine goals in the tournament and 18 goals overall.

During the match, when India was awarded another penalty corner, Harmanpreet was on the bench. Nevertheless, Amit Rohidas seized the opportunity, skillfully picking up the bouncing ball and delivering an excellent drag flick into the top left corner of the goal. This display of skill and teamwork further solidified India’s control over the match.

As the match neared its conclusion, Argentina desperately pushed forward, committing all their players to search for a goal. However, they were caught off guard by a swift counterattack from India. Vivek Prasad and Abishek found themselves in a promising two-on-one situation against the goalkeeper. Vivek cleverly passed the ball to Abishek, who calmly tapped it into the net, securing a decisive 3-0 victory for India.

Harmanpreet Singh’s exceptional performance did not go unnoticed, as he was deservedly named the player of the match. In his post-match comments, he highlighted the team’s focus on ball possession and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. He acknowledged that while India created numerous chances, the defensive structure played a vital role in maintaining their lead and securing the victory.

However, the Netherlands quickly responded in the final five minutes of the first quarter. They earned a penalty corner, which was expertly converted into a goal by Yibbi Jansen. This equalizer injected renewed energy into the Dutch side, setting the stage for an intense battle between the two teams.

In the second quarter, the Netherlands displayed their attacking prowess, swiftly taking the lead. They earned a penalty corner that resulted in a penalty stroke, skillfully converted by Frédérique Matla. This gave the Dutch team a significant advantage and put them in control of the match.

Jansen once again showcased her scoring abilities with another precise strike from a penalty corner, this time finding the bottom left corner of the net. The Netherlands continued to assert their dominance, earning another penalty corner just before halftime. Pien Dicke capitalized on a rebound from Jansen’s shot, increasing their lead.

Australia displayed resilience in the third quarter, managing to pull one goal back. Courtney Schonell provided a well-placed cross, allowing Rosie Malone to deflect the ball into the goal for her second goal of the match.

However, the Netherlands remained relentless. In the final quarter, Felice Albers orchestrated a well-executed play, setting up Pien Dicke for a goal that took a deflection off two Australian players. Despite a review, the goal stood, extending the Netherlands’ lead.

Frédérique Matla became the third Dutchwoman to complete a brace, further solidifying their dominance with a scoreline of 6-2. Jansen completed her hat-trick with another accurate strike from a penalty corner, sealing the impressive 7-2 victory for the Netherlands.
