(Football news) Manchester United won’t be able to call upon Anthony Martial for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City after the forward suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory against Fulham. Tests revealed that the 27 year old suffered a muscle tear, which is one of the many injuries the French international has sustained this season, scoring just six goals and making two assists in 21 Premier League matches.

Martial’s career at Manchester United has been a disappointing one as injuries and inconsistency means that the player isn’t a reliable option since his arrival. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, Martial was expected to up the ante and make up the goals deficit which has clearly not happened. Erik ten Hag undoubtedly needs to bolster his team’s attacking prowess in the summer transfer window as Wout Weghorst has had a very underwhelming loan spell at the club while Martial’s issues means that the team is over-reliant on Marcus Rashford.

Victory for Manchester United on Saturday will secure a domestic double, as they already won the League Cup in February. Moreover, it will also deny their rivals Manchester City the opportunity to secure a treble, which has only been achieved by Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in 1999. City will be playing in the Champions League final against Inter Milan next month, hoping to secure their first European trophy in the club’s history.
