“The moment is now”: Barcelona will lose Sergio Busquets at the end of the current campaign

The legendary Sergio Busquets of FC Barcelona has declared his intention to leave the team at the end of the current campaign

(Football News) The Barçelona midfielder announced his decision on Wednesday via social media in an emotional video in which he says “It has been an honor, a draw and a source of pride to have been able to wear this badge but everything must come to an end. It has not been an easy decision but the time has come.”

The Barcelona captain leaves the club after 18 seasons. He joined in 2005 and played for the U19A and Barça B teams until Pep Guardiola gave him his professional debut in 2008. Busquets quickly established himself as a key player on the team that captured six trophies in a single year.

Busquets has since established himself as a crucial member of the team and has led the first team for the past two seasons. He bids farewell after two years of wearing the armband with a long list of accolades and a globally renowned playing style.

Lengthy, illustrious career

The biography of Sergio Busquets at Barça is one of professionalism and dedication in the middle of the pitch. He is one of the greatest defensive midfielders in the league thanks to his talent and keen sense of the game. Busquets played defense for the majority of his Barça career, but he also produced 40 assists and scored 18 goals. Busquets has participated in 48 matches (24 victories) in El Clásicos, more than any other player.

The Barcelona midfielder is third all-time with 718 games played for Barça in all competitions. He is also among the athletes with the most championships. His 31 victories include eight LaLiga Santander championships, seven Copa del Rey crowns, seven Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Champions Leagues, three European Super Cups, and three Club World Cup victories.

The last year as a Barcelona player

After the news of his leaving broke, Busquets still had the 2022–23 season to play out, and his final weeks as a Blaugrana likely included a seventh LaLiga Santander championship. He is still incredibly important and is still a crucial member of Xavi Hernández’s team. Only five players have logged more on-field time with 2,087 minutes (27 appearances, 4 assists).
