(Football news) Seven Real Madrid players are running out of contract at the end of this season. One of them is midfielder Toni Kroos who has been a Real Madrid player for almost a decade now. The case of Kroos is unique as it is pretty clear that it is either a one year renewal or retirement.
The German’s last renewal was in 2019 where he had said that it will be his last long term renewal. Kroos has publicly said multiple times that he doesn’t want to play till he is 40 and wants to retire early at Real Madrid. There were question marks about Kroos’ future as he was reportedly considering retirement but now he looks all set to renew his contract for another year.
Real Madrid were always clear that they wanted Kroos to continue playing and not retire. According to reports they even offered him a longer deal but the player opted for a 1 year deal. No other club was even in the conversation by the looks of things. Kroos had a very good first half of the season but after the World Cup break it slightly dipped.
Now Real Madrid have recovered their form and Toni Kroos is a very important part of the team. The midfielder is still 33 years old and this may not be his final renewal with Los Blancos. Real Madrid are in the race for Jude Bellingham but it looks like Kroos’ renewal will not have any effect on Bellingham’s arrival or vice versa.
Toni Kroos’ partner in crime Luka Modric is also out of contract in the summer but Real Madrid are yet to offer him a new contract. Karim Benzema has also reportedly agreed an extension with only the official announcement pending. Marco Asensio is still in negotiations with the club but both parties want to renew.
There are doubts on whether Dani Ceballos will be offered a renewal and if he will accept it. Mariano will most definitely leave the club which will free up a lot of Real Madrid’s wage budget. Nacho hasn’t decided on his future as of yet but Real Madrid do want him to stay at the club.
