India’s learnings from the 2-1 ODI series loss against Australia

India lost the ODI series against Australia after a disappointing batting performance
India vs Australia

(Cricket news) India’s batting in this series has been utterly disappointing. Only Virat Kohli in the 3rd match and KL Rahul in the 1st match managed to cross the 50 run mark. In general the batting conditions weren’t that great but Indian batters definitely under performed. The worrying part is that apart from Shreyas Iyer and maybe Jasprit Bumrah this is probably India’s best batting line-up. Iyer and Bumrah’s recurring fitness issues could well mean that this will be India’s line-up at the World Cup which means that there are areas of concern.

Suryakumar Yadav got a golden duck in all 3 games. Before the series, it was pretty clear that SKY had to perform well to justify his place as he is in the squad on the basis of his T20I performances despite not performing in ODIs. After this series it is pretty clear that Suryakumar Yadav shouldn’t be retained in the ODI squad. There are plenty of other players who are waiting for their opportunity. Sanju Samson is one person who deserves a crack in the middle order as he has impressed in the limited opportunity that he has got. Deepak Hooda is someone who can be looked at as he also gives another bowling option.

The bowling combination could also change with 4 seamers and 2 spinners working much better for India. The 4th seamer as of now is a choice between Shardul Thakur and Umran Malik. Prasidh Krishna who was a regular part of the ODI team could come back if fit after the IPL. Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback date isn’t set as of now but he has a good chance of missing the World Cup. As for the wrist spinner position, Kuldeep Yadav has earned himself a long run in the team and Yuzvendra Chahal will have to wait for his turn.
