(Football news) Southampton are close to signing Dinamo Zagreb star Mislav Orsic. It is understood that a deal has already been agreed as it will see the 30-year-old move to St Mary’s in the winter transfer window. Southampton are also keen to bring in their targets quickly and Nathan Jones wants to add more experience to his side. The south coast side are believed to have offered around £6 million plus add-ons for Orsic and it has been reportedly that an improved offer has seen Zagreb accept the bid.
Everton and Nottingham Forest were also linked with a move for Orsic, but it now appears that the Croatian international looks set to join Nathan Jones’ team. Orsic represented Croatia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and scored a brilliant goal during his nation’s third-place play-off victory over Morocco. Over recent years Orsic has developed a reputation for being a big-game player for Dinamo as he has scored some goals against Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham United in previous European competitions.
This season, Orsic has been in terrific form, scoring 13 goals and assisting eight times in 27 appearances for Dinamo Zagreb. Southampton are looking to strengthen their squad this month and have also approached Villarreal midfielder Nicolas Jackson over a possible move to St Mary’s. Talks with Jackson’s representatives are taking place for a six-month loan with an option to buy in the summer as Southampton are currently bottom of the Premier League and look to avoid relegation this season.
