(Cricket news) 20th June might be the most significant date in Indian Test cricket history. Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly all made their Test debuts on this day and all three went on to achieve incredible things for Indian cricket, especially in the longest format of the game. Dravid and Ganguly made their debuts at Lords on 20th June 1996 in the 2nd Test match against England. Kohli made his debut on 20th June 2011 in the 1st Test against West Indies at Kingston.
Sourav Ganguly couldn't have asked for a better debut. The then Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin won the toss and put England into bat first. Ganguly acted as the 5th bowler and picked up two very important wickets. In the second innings, he came into bat at number 3 and scored an incredible 131 off 301 balls hitting 20 fours. In the 3rd innings, Ganguly was once again given the ball and he picked up another wicket. The match ended up being a draw as India didn't get a chance to bat in the 2nd innings.
Sourav Ganguly went on to captain the sides for a number of years where he got some memorable wins. He is widely credited for revolutionising the Indian team and the players he developed went on to become legends of Indian cricket. He also scored 16 hundreds and India never lost any match when Ganguly got a ton. Dravid also had a very good debut as he scored 95 off 267 balls hitting 6 boundaries, going on to become one of the greatest red ball batters of all time. He scored 13288 at an average of 52.3 getting 36 centuries and also captaining India for a brief time where he was successful.
Virat Kohli's debut wasn't too successful for him as 4(10) and 15(54) in the match. India won the match against West Indies and coincidentally the man of the match was Rahul Dravid. Kohli went on to become one of the best players in Test cricket history. He also became an extremely successful captain who is often credited for keeping Test cricket alive. At the beginning of his career, Kohli wasn't seen as a proper Test player but he has changed that by scoring 8043 at an average of 49.96 including 27 centuries.
All 3 of these legends have played over a hundred Test matches. They have all captained the Indian team in legendary Test series. Ganguly led the Indian team that tied the series in Australia. Dravid led India to a Test series win in England after 21 years. Virat Kohli led India to a Test series win in Australia for the first time ever in 2018. 20th June holds a lot of significance in Indian cricket history and cricket history in general. Dravid is now carrying his legacy as the coach of the Indian team while Sourav Ganguly is the president of the BCCI. Virat Kohli is still going strong playing all three formats consistently.
