(Football news) World Cup winner Julian Alvarez is all set to sign a contract extension at Manchester City amid interest from Barcelona. The Citizens were keen on penning down a new deal amid interest from top clubs across Europe as Barcelona are one of the clubs who have their eyes set on the Argentina international. The 23-year-old is in sensational form in the ongoing season. He is currently enduring the best season of his life as he has done a great job for both club and country.

Alvarez was the key protagonist in Argentina’s road to the FIFA World Cup 2022. His performances have not gone unnoticed, and a lot of clubs are interested in signing Manchester City next season even though he joined Man City this summer from River Plate. Pep Guardiola’s team sealed a deal for Julian Alvarez back in the winter of 2022 but they ultimately decided to let him stay at River Plate on loan until the end of the season.

Alvarez has had a significant impact since joining City even though Erling Haaland’s terrific form in front of goal has not allowed the 23-year-old to have regular game time. In the limited time opportunity given to him he has done wonders. The former River Plate forward has featured in 31 matches but has played for just over 1500 minutes but he still has managed to score 10 goals and has three assists to his name as he is averaging a goal every 155th minute.

Manchester City are very keen on keeping the Argentine star in the long term and form a lethal striking partnership with Haaland in the future. As a result, they are all set to offer him an improved contract offer as the City officials had tried to pen a new deal in the recent past but could not succeed. However, this time, with improved wages and a longer contract they are confident of getting it done.

Pep Guardiola’s side are all set to offer him a deal that will be until the summer of 2028. The City group are going to significantly increase his wages in order to keep him at the club. Manchester City are well aware of the interest from clubs like Barcelona and PSG as they do not want to risk losing out on the 23-year-old World Cup winner, who can be a superstar in the near future.
