(Football news) Poland qualified for the Round of 16 by the slightest of margins by getting the better of Mexico. Their last match was a 2-0 hammering against Argentina and now they prepare to face France in the Round of 16. Despite losing their last group stage match against Tunisia,France are firm favorites to retain the World Cup trophy. However this World Cup has had its fair share of upsets already and while Poland beating France would be a surprise, it is definitely possible. Poland will have to play out of their skins as they haven’t been particularly impressive in this tournament so far despite having 1 win and 1 draw.
Robert Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in the world and till now Poland haven’t given him enough service. Manager Czesław Michniewicz needs to bring the best out of Lewandowski. France will not allow them to have much of the ball therefore the Polish side will have to be very efficient when they do have the ball. The defense will be under immense pressure throughout and Matty Cash will have his hands full marking Kylian Mbappe. Antoine Griezmann has rejuvenated his old form in this tournament and he will be a massive problem for Poland’s defense.
Didier Deschamps will need to choose from Raphael Varane, Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate to start in defense. Benjamin Pavard and Jules Kounde will be fighting for a place at right back while the rest of the team pretty much picks itself. Real Madrid starlet Aurélien Tchouaméni has been brilliant in the World Cup and he will be looking to continue the same. He will be the one responsible to run the midfield and recover balls which will not allow to Poland to counter attack.
