Tottenham Hotspur host Brentford as both team keep an eye on European spots

With their match against Brentford in a London derby, Tottenham Hotspur will host the Premier League for the last time this campaign

(Football news) The only thing left to play for is a Europa League spot, therefore it appears that Tottenham Hotspur’s season will end in a typically underwhelming fashion. For Spurs to have any hope of making it to the Europa League, they need to win both of their upcoming games.

Tottenham has had a string of defeats, losing three of their past five competitive games before last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa. The Lilywhites have had a difficult season, and they appear to be a squad that will require significant summer roster changes.

They are currently navigating a grim conclusion to what began as a bright season under former manager Antonio Conte. Their seven-game winning streak at the beginning of the season was a lie, and it has since turned into yet another season that will go in the cabinet full of average campaigns.

Brentford, their opponent on Saturday, has triumphed in three of their previous four Premier League games. Last Saturday, West Ham United was defeated 2-0 by Thomas Frank’s team courtesy of goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa in the first half.

Brentford are now tenth in the standings, but with a victory on Saturday, they may pass Tottenham Hotspur by one point. Ivan Toney’s eight-month football suspension will begin with immediate effect after confessing to 232 betting rule violations and he will be sorely missed by Brentford. Despite this, Brentford could humiliate Spurs on Saturday because they are a well managed and well-coordinated club that can compete with any group in the nation.

Important Stats & Head-to-Head

  • In nine league matches, Brentford has only managed one victory over Tottenham Hotspur. They have four draws and four losses.
  • The away team has just once won in the previous nine league meetings between the two teams.
  • Only twice in the previous 14 seasons have Tottenham Hotspur lost in their final home league game.
  • In each of the previous two seasons, Brentford has triumphed in their final away league game.
  • This season, Tottenham Hotspur has dropped a total of 13 Premier League games. In the 2008–09 season, they suffered their 15th loss.

Predictions

Tottenham has the home advantage and they have been in these kinds of situations before and they know how to deal with it. Brentford without Ivan Toney would face problems while attacking. The game should be a close one as both Spurs would like to attack and Brentford would like to hit on the counter as they have done several times in the past.

Prediction scores: Tottenham Hotspurs 3 – Brentford 1
