Tim Boon joins Sri Lanka Cricket as batting consultant

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed Tim Boon, the former head coach of Leicestershire and the England Under-19 team, as a batting consultant. He has signed a one-month contract effective from May 8th to work as a coach and high-performance consultant.

Boon, who also served as England’s team analyst during their successful 2005 Ashes campaign, will focus on batting consultancy for several Sri Lankan national teams. This includes the Women’s senior and A-teams, the men’s emerging team, and the Sri Lanka Under-17s.

According to SLC, Boon’s month-long program will involve “technical and tactical sessions aimed at improving the players’ overall batting approach and individual performance.”

His engagement coincides with a recent 10-day fielding program conducted by India’s former fielding coach, R Sridhar, for both senior men’s and women’s cricketers in Sri Lanka.

This recruitment aligns with SLC’s ongoing strategy of hiring overseas coaches on short-term assignments. Previously, Rajasthan Royals’ high-performance director Zubin Bharucha led a program to enhance batting standards in 2024. Over the past decade, SLC has also enlisted the expertise of Wasim Akram and Jonty Rhodes for brief bowling and fielding programs, respectively.
