Carlos Alcaraz closes out season by winning Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals title

(Tennis news) Carlos Alcaraz finished off the year with a straight victory in the final against Sebastian Korda at Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals. Alcaraz had the edge over Korda at every point of time, the first set saw Korda hitting the ball as far away as possible from Alcaraz but the Spaniard kept sprinting and the racquet did the rest.

The second set saw Korda coming towards the net as he tried to finish the rallies in quick time but Carlos still forged a new path as he kept on building his lead. In the third game of the second set, Carlos even tried a tweener as he failed with a smile on his face. Carlos served out the second set with a 218 km/hour ace.

In the third set, Korda was a point away from breaking Alcaraz but the heavy groundstrokes prevented him from doing so, he lost a chance to break in the opening game. Alcaraz carried on his power hitting with a down the line forehand to bring championship point, two final smashes from Alcaraz gave him the year end title as the 18 year old ended his sensational season.

Reflecting on his time in Milan, Korda said, “It was a great experience for me. I'm going to take a lot of things from the matches and just go back to work, improve myself and anything that I can”.

Alcaraz said in his on-court interview. “It is amazing. To be able to win this tournament means a lot to me. I am so excited right now and emotional. I was very, very nervous at the start. I had to be calm to save the break points. I know Korda is serving very well, so I had to play my best in those moments.”

Alcaraz had only dropped a set on his way to winning the title as he became the third player in the tournament history to remain undefeated. Korda also did not lose a match on the way to the final. Alcaraz has finished the year with 32 victories and couldn't have asked for more with the latest title.
