Takeaways from India’s victory over New Zealand in rain affected T20I series

(Cricket news) India defeated New Zealand 1-0 in the T20I series. The 1st T20I was abandoned without a ball bowled. India won the 2nd T20I convincingly by 65 runs. The 3rd T20 was also rained out after 9 overs in the 2nd innings. The match was tied according to the DLS method as India wrapped up the series. Rain did play spoilsport but the men in blue will be happy with their performance. Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the player of the match in the 2nd T20I as well as the player of the series. Mohammed Siraj was named the player of the match in the 3rd T20I.

Suryakumar Yadav continued his incredible run of form as he got an opportunity to bat at number 3. In T20Is SKY is already undroppable but now with this level of consistency he is knocking on the door in the other formats. Apart from him the other batters were disappointing which is a big worry for India. The opening combination of Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant just didn't look in control. Deepak Hooda looks out of place at number 6 while Shreyas Iyer's problems with the short ball are showing no signs of improvement. Pant definitely needs to be backed more as an opener but he will not get that many opportunities. Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill were extremely unlucky to not get a game but they is next in line.

India's bowling was pretty good as Arshdeep Singh continued his great form. Mohammed Siraj once again proved why he is under-used in this format with some great bowling. Deepak Hooda had a good 2nd game with the ball as did Yuzvendra Chahal. Hardik Pandya has said a few times that he wants the team to have more bowling options. There is still a lot of work to do, especially in the middle overs where the men in blue seem to lose their way a little. Kuldeep Yadav didn't get a game as Chahal needed to have game time. Umran Malik is also eagerly waiting for his opportunity which he could get in the ODIs which will start on 25th November with Shikhar Dhawan leading the side
