Spanish Footballer Banned Six Matches

The English Football Association (FA) has given Spanish football player Borja Sainz, who plays in the Championship in England, a heavy six-match suspension for spitting at a rival during a game between Norwich City and Sunderland on December 21.

With 15 goals to his credit, Sainz is currently the Championship’s top scorer. He has had an incredible season in England so far, but after receiving this harsh punishment—which includes a £12,000 fine—he will have to wait to add to his total.

The event happened during Norwich’s 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the final match. Although the referee at the time did not witness the incident and did not award a penalty, it was discovered that Sainz had slapped Chris Mepham. However, in English football, such behavior is strictly regulated and punishable by harsh penalties. After conducting an inquiry, the FA concluded that Sainz had “committed an expulsion offence” after confirming that he had violated Rule E1.1 of the federation’s statutes.

Following the FA’s declaration, Sainz said, “I want to take this opportunity to issue a sincere and public apology for my actions during our match against Sunderland.” The Spanish forward confessed that his response was inappropriate and that spitting at an opponent was totally out of character. “I accept full responsibility for my actions and sincerely regret them. “I want to personally apologize to Chris Mepham, the opposing player, for my actions,” he continued.

In addition, Sainz apologized to his teammates, coaches, and supporters. “I feel so bad about myself and for disappointing everyone with my behavior. Even though I’m disappointed to be missing the next games, I’ll take this time to think, grow, and refocus so that I can return stronger and keep helping the team for the remainder of the season. I appreciate your support and understanding. “Borja,” said a contrite Borja Sainz, accepting his six-match suspension.
