(Cricket news) As they prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, South Africa has announced full-strength squads for their forthcoming white-ball trip of Australia.
Following impressive performances in the Proteas’ ICC World Test Championship 2023–25 victory, Temba Bavuma returns to captain the ODI team, while Aiden Markram will head the T20I team.
Following an outstanding domestic season, off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen, who made his Test debut against Zimbabwe earlier this year, receives his first call-up in both white-ball formats.
Both squads include exciting young batting talents Dewald Brevis and Lhuan-dré Pretorius, the latter of whom received his first ODI call-up.
With a scorching 153 in his first appearance in the red-ball format, Pretorius made a spectacular Test debut in Zimbabwe.
The 22-year-old Brevis, who has not yet made his ODI debut, will be hoping to expand on his increasing T20I and Test setup experience.
Regulars Tristan Stubbs, Lungi Ngidi, and Kagiso Rabada are also rejoining the team, adding crucial experience to both squads.
Following their outstanding performances for the Proteas in recent months, Ryan Rickelton, Matthew Breetzke, and Wiaan Mulder have all been included in the mix.
Regarding the team, head coach Conrad thinks South Africa has a capable collection of players to train for the upcoming two World Cups.
After taking a break after the WTC Final, it’s wonderful to see our senior players return to the mix.
“As we continue to develop a solid core in both formats, their expertise and calibre truly add value to the group.”
From now on, each series helps to build our teams for the T20 World Cup the next year and the 50-over World Cup at home in 2027.
“Exploring Australia is never simple.” We are aware that their demands and rigour will put us to the test in every area, and that is just the kind of challenge we are looking for.
