Grace Scrivens, the promising Essex skipper, has been named captain of the England A Women’s team for their upcoming 50-over and T20 series against New Zealand A. The squads will be coached by England Women’s performance batting coach, Jon Lewis.
Scrivens, widely considered a future England Women’s captain despite not yet having made a senior international appearance, previously led the A side in a four-day match in Australia over the winter.
Hampshire opener Ella McCaughan has been selected for both squads but will miss the initial 50-over matches due to injury. Additionally, Mahika Gaur and Grace Thompson will each have limited availability, featuring in only one of the 50-over fixtures.
Jon Lewis expressed his enthusiasm for the series, stating, “We’ve selected a young and talented group of players, many of whom have gained recognition through their form for their counties in the first half of the season.” He also highlighted the inclusion of several players with recent experience from the England Women’s U19 team. Lewis anticipates a challenging series given New Zealand’s strong A squad, which boasts significant international experience, and is keen to see his players seize the opportunity against tough opposition.
