(Football news) AC Milan on Tuesday got a 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at the San Siro in the Round of 16 first leg. Real Madrid loanee Brahim Diaz got the only goal of the game which was his 5th goal of the season. Diaz has been on loan at Milan since 2020 and has been an important part of the team. He was a product of the renowned Malaga academy but he switched to Manchester City at the age of 16.

After struggling to get game time Diaz secured a move to Real Madrid in January 2019. He had very limited opportunities at the Bernabeu as well but he was impressive on the rare occasions he did play. To get more game time Los Blancos loaned him to AC Milan initially for a year but was later renewed for 2 more years.

According to reports, Milan don’t have a buy option and will have to negotiate with Real Madrid for a transfer. Los Blancos have other ideas as they are planning to renew his contract till 2027. His current deal expires in 2025 but apparently Real Madrid believes in him. The Merengues are still not sure if he has a future at club but will renew him anyway to maybe sell him for a profit or loan him until they can find a place for him. From Brahim Diaz’s point of view the renewal will keep his dream of playing for Real Madrid alive. There is a high possibility that after renewing he will be loaned out again or maybe even sold.

For Brahim Diaz to stay at the club there are other things that need to happen. If Real Madrid doesn’t renew the contracts of Marco Asensio and/or Dani Ceballos then Diaz could find a place at the club. Everything indicates that Real Madrid will have a busy period with transfers and renewals this summer. Brahim Diaz will be at the center of the discussions at the club. He is definitely good enough to be a regular part of the Real Madrid squad. He may not be good enough to be a regular starter which means that he has a decision to make.

He could either be an instant starter somewhere else or be a substitute at Real Madrid where he will try to push his way into the side. It also depends on who the manager is at Real Madrid next season or the season after that. At the moment the system Carlo Ancelotti plays doesn’t have a place for a number 10 which is Diaz’s natural position even though he can play on either wing. This is not the only decision Brahim has to make but he is also reportedly considering changing his international allegiance from Spain to Morocco.
