Real Madrid are still 3 points behind league leaders Barcelona as they gear up for a tough run of fixtures
Real Madrid

(Football news) Barcelona midweek got a narrow 1-0 win over 10-man Real Sociedad in the Copa Del Rey quarter final. Now they gear up for a tough away fixture against 12th placed Girona in La Liga. The Blaugrana are top of the La Liga table but Real Madrid are breathing down their neck just 3 points behind. This will be the final game of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres’ suspension. Girona on the other hand will be without David Lopez, Reinier and Ibrahima Kebe who are all injured while Santiago Bueno is suspended. Barcelona will be keen to keep their 12 game unbeaten streak going.

Real Madrid came back from a goal down to beat Atletico Madrid in the Copa Del Rey midweek. Now Los Blancos face a tough challenge as they take on Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu. Socied are still pretty much in the title race and a win would mean that they go level on points with Real Madrid. Both the teams have a long list of injuries which could still get worse. Real Madrid will be missing Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez. Aurélien Tchouaméni could return to the squad but David Alaba who returned to training has relapsed and is out of contention.

Rodrygo, Ferland Mendy and Nacho suffered injuries in the Madrid derby and all of them are major doubts. Eduardo Camavinga may have to slot in at left back for the full game on Sunday. As for La Real they will be without Umar Sadiq, David Silva, Jon Pacheco, Mohamed Ali-Cho, Andoni Gorosabel, Mikel Merino, Ander Guevara, Alex Sola and Martin Merquelanz. Sociedad will be looking to turn up the heat in the title race as they have a golden opportunity to do so.

After losing the Madrid derby to Real Madrid and getting knocked out of the Copa Del Rey, Atletico Madrid have only the top 4 to play for. They will travel away for their next game against 7th placed Osasuna. A win for Osasuna will take them level on points with the Rojiblancos. The race for the top four is pretty intense as at least 7 teams are still realistically in it for the 4th spot. Marcos Llorente is the only absentee for Atletico Madrid while Osasuna will be without Nacho Vidal and Ruben Pena.
