Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid score last minute winners

(Football news) Both the Madrid clubs won their respective matches by scoring a winner in injury time. Atletico Madrid beat Espanyol 2-1 at home thanks to a brace from Yannick Carrasco. The first half was evenly balanced with both teams getting half chances but neither came close. Diego Simeone wasn't happy with the first half performance as he made 3 changes at half time. The changes worked in favour of the hosts as substitutes Matheus Cunha and Yannick Carrasco combined to break the deadlock.

Disaster struck in the 70th minute as Geoffrey Kondogbia handled the ball outside Atleti's box and received a 2nd yellow card for it. The handball came off a rebound which made the yellow card very controversial. Things became worse when Raul de Tomas scored from the resulting free kick. The set piece should have been saved by Jan Oblak who could only palm it into the goal. In the final minute of added time the goalscorer de Tomas handled the ball in the box. The referee awarded a penalty after a VAR review which Carrasco scored. The win puts Atletico Madrid level on points with Sevilla and Barcelona.

Real Madrid got another sensational comeback win but this time away from home against Sevilla. Injury hit Real Madrid started the game extremely poorly as the players look visibly fatigued after the game against Chelsea. Ivan Rakitic scored a penalty in the 21st minute after Eder Militao jumped out of the wall for no reason leaving a big gap. Four minutes later Erik Lamela doubled the home side's lead after being set up by Jesus Corona. Eduardo Camavinga was booked once in the 31st minute and a few minutes later should have been sent off for a foul on Anthony Martial but the referee decided against it. Camavinga was replaced by Rodrygo at half time.

The Brazilian made an instant impact as he pulled a goal back in the 50th minute after being set up by Dani Carvajal who was playing out of position at left back. Vinicius Jr looked to have equalised but the referee controversially ruled it out for handball much to the anger of the Real Madrid players and coaches. In the 82nd minute, Carvajal once again assisted another substitute Nacho who scored the equaliser. Super-sub Rodrygo setup Karim Benzema who scored the winner in injury time. The officiating in the game was very questionable as there were a lot of wrong and controversial decisions. The incredible comeback now puts Real Madrid 150 points ahead of Barcelona, Sevilla and Atlético Madrid but the Blaugrana still have two games in hand.
