NBA: Lakers suffer their 2nd successive defeat to the Mavericks, Celtics beat Nets

Luka helps Mavericks get an important win over the Lakers

(Basketball news) The Los Angeles Lakers suffered their 2nd successive defeat at the hands of Dallas Mavericks 119-115 after overtime. For the Mavericks, Luka Doncic hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation and the first overtime, finishing with 35 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists as Christian Wood added 24 points and 14 rebounds while Tim Hardaway Jr had 22 points and eight rebounds. For the Lakers, Russell Westbrook scored a season-high 28 points and LeBron James had 24 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists. With this result the Lakers have lost two straight games after a five-game winning streak. The Mavericks improved their record to 24-19 and are 4th in the Western Conference standings.

”We knew we weren’t out of it,” said Tim Hardaway Jr., who had 22 points and eight rebounds. ”Anytime you’ve got (No.) 77 on the floor, you know there’s a chance.”

”We gave ourselves a chance to win,” said James, who went 9 for 28 and missed all seven of his 3-point attempts. ”We just couldn’t come through late in the game.”

”I’m more tired now,” said Doncic, who rested for only 9 seconds in the final 40 minutes of play. ”I think I was good in the game with the energy. Now I need to rest.”

‘He made a tough shot, simple as that,” Westbrook said. ”You just move on. Find a way to execute better.”

The Boston Celtics got a massive win over second place Brooklyn Nets 109-98. For the Celtics, Jayson Tatum had 20 points and 11 rebounds as Marcus Smart added 16 points and 10 assists and Malcolm Brogdon also scored 16 points. Brown had a right adductor tightness, after scoring a season-high 41 points in a victory over New Orleans. Interim coach Joe Mazzulla said Brown could miss a week or more. For the Nets, Irving scored 24 points as T.J Warren added 20 and Joe Harris, starting for Durant, had 18. The Nets will be without Durant for at least two weeks after he sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee on Sunday, had won 18 of their previous 20 games and reached the midpoint of the season with a record of 27-14. While the Celtics have the best record in the NBA and sit on top of the Eastern Conference standings.

”They got us on a rhythm, they got our momentum back for us,” Smart said.

”The first three quarters, I felt like I had some good rhythmic shots going,” Irving said. ”In the fourth, I just wanted to be aggressive.”

”You want to play the best team and the way they play, they’re very together defensively and offensively,” Simmons said. ”They have some great individuals, but when you put it together they play team basketball.”
