Keylor Navas, who is 38 years old and had a good European career, has seized the chance to establish himself in Argentine football. He is now playing in the Torneo Apertura for Newell’s Old Boys. Following a six-month break from competition, he chose the Rosario-based team out of multiple offers.
The Lepra can therefore rely on a player with a great deal of expertise to protect their goal. During a portion of his tenure in the French capital, Navas shared the field with Lionel Messi at his final club, Paris Saint-Germain. Few players have had the opportunity to play with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, which he did.
In light of this, two contradictory quotes from the Costa Rican’s career have surfaced in the continuous discussion on the greatest player of all time among current celebrities.
“I think Messi is a very good player, the best in the world, and that is a gift God gave him since he was little, it shows in the videos, and he doesn’t need to prove anything,” Navas said in 2013, while Messi was still wearing the Levante jersey. He has done a lot of things that no one else will be able to do and that will be remembered for years to come.
But in 2015, when he was at Real Madrid, he gave his teammate high marks: “I think Cristiano is the best because I see him every day, I see his professionalism, his work ethic, and all he does to get better. Other athletes in his situation could slack down and claim to have accomplished everything, but he demonstrates the contrary. He stands out from the others due to a special talent.
“There would be many Cristianos if every player had his level of talent, but there is only one. Because of his brilliance, I believe that God has blessed and privileged him. Additionally, he noted in an interview with a source that his professionalism enables him to get better every year.
The Costa Rican goalie has already participated in two official games while wearing the Lepra’s colors during his early days at Newell’s. On February 2, he made his debut at Estadio Marcelo Bielsa, where he helped his club defeat Aldosivi 1-0.
However, his second game ended in a loss, as Central Córdoba handed Newell’s their first home loss by a score of 2-0, which was also the first goal Navas had let up in Argentine football.
