Indian Women finish 17th and 32nd in 20km Race Walk at the Tokyo Olympics

(Athletics news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: Priyanka Goswami and Bhawna Jat competed in the Women's 20km Race Walk in the Tokyo Olympics. Priyanka was on the top until the 8km mark but finished 17th with a timing of 1:32:36 and Bhawna finished 32nd with a timing of 1:37:38. Antonella Palmisano of Italy finished 1st with a timing of 1:29:12, Sandra Arenas of Colombia finished 2nd with a timing of 1:29:37 and the winner in the 2016 Rio Olympics  Liu Hong from China finished third with a timing of 1:29:57.

India was fielding two debutants in the race today and Bhawna is a former national record holder while Priyanka is the current national record holder. Representation in Athletics has gone way up in this year’s Olympics and with only two days to go there are still a handful of Indians left in the competition.
