(Football news) The result has moved the Red Devils into 12th spot in the overall Europa League table, one point off eighth-placed Lyon, while Bodo/Glimt have dropped to 17th courtesy of their second loss in the competition this term.

The contest represented Amorim’s first home game in charge of Manchester United, and the Portuguese managed to guide the 20-time English champions to a much-needed three points at Old Trafford.

Manchester United made the breakthrough after just 50 seconds at Old Trafford, and it was a horrible moment for Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, who made a mess of a back-pass from Jostein Gundersen, allowing Hojlund to muscle him off the ball, and it fell for Alejandro Garnacho, with the Argentine having the simple task of converting from close range.

Bodo/Glimt levelled the scores in the 19th minute, though, and it was a brilliant effort from Hakon Evjen, with the 24-year-old picking out the top corner with a curling strike after being found by Sondre Fet.

The visitors then took the lead in the 23rd minute, with Philip Zinckernagel racing clear of the returning Tyrell Malacia down the left before firing through the legs of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana to silence Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were level in the final stages of the first period, though, and it was another terrific goal, this time from Hojlund, who collected a cross from Noussair Mazraoui before feeding the ball beautifully into the bottom corner.

Mason Mount struck the crossbar for Manchester United early in the second period, but the third came for the hosts in the 50th minute, with Hojlund firing a cross from Manuel Ugarte into the back of the net after an excellent flick from Mount.

Both sides had chances to add to the scoring in the period that followed, with Manchester United needing their goalkeeper Onana to come off his line and deal with danger outside his penalty box, but it finished 3-2 in Manchester, with Amorim securing his first victory since arriving as the English club’s new head coach.
