(Football news) It was a fiery clash between Manchester United and Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford with Marco Silva’s side dominating proceedings for large chunks of the game. Aleksandar Mitrovic found the back of the net in the 50th minute but a handball by Willian resulted in three red cards with coach Silva, Willian and Mitrovic being forced off.

Bruno Fernandes levelled the score from the penalty spot and Marcel Sabitzer put the Red Devils in front with a clever finish just two minutes later. Fernandes then put the game beyond Fulham in the 96th minute with an emphatic finish. The result meant that Erik ten Hag’s side will now face Brighton at the Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup semi-final.

In team news, Erik ten Hag made four changes to the team that defeated Real Betis in the Europa League. Luke Shaw returned to left back in Tyrell Malacia’s place while Casemiro (suspended) was replaced by Scott McTominay. Jadon Sancho and Marcel Sabitzer replaced Facundo Pellistri and Fred who were both dropped to the bench.

As for Fulham, coach Marco Silva made three changes with Issa Diop coming in for Tosin Adarabioyo at the back while Joao Palhinha returned from suspension in place of Sasa Lukic and Willian took Manor Solomon’s place in the starting lineup.

Speaking after the match, Fulham coach Marco Silva said “Until the penalty and red card, we were clearly the best team on the pitch. We respect Manchester United but it was clear we were the best team on the pitch. What is difficult to understand is why the two moments in their box in the first half where one of them is a clear penalty on Mitrovic – why did no-one check?”

On his own red card, he said: “If you ask me if I did something I am happy with, of course not. But if you ask me if that should be a red card, I have big doubts. I would like to know what the referee is going to write about what I said to him.”
