Maheesh Theekshana reacts to 2023 Chennai cyclone

Maheesh Theekshana expresses, "Regarding footage from my second home...wishing everyone strength and safety.”

(Cricket News) Chennai Super Kings’ spinner Maheesh Theekshana has shared his deep concern regarding the relentless downpour in Tamil Nadu caused by Cyclone Michaung. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Sri Lankan off-spinner opened up about the unfolding crisis in his second home, Chennai.

Having viewed distressing footage of the situation, Theekshana extended his support and empathy, sending heartfelt love and prayers to all those affected. His message carried a tone of resilience and a call for safety: “Stay strong, stay safe. We’re in this together.”

The adverse weather conditions persisted in Chennai and its neighboring areas on Monday, attributed to the impending landfall of Cyclone Michaung within the next 24 hours. The city grappled with heavy rains and strong winds, leading to flooding in various localities. In response, authorities took measures such as closing schools and offices, grounding flights, and executing evacuations from inundated zones.

Social media platforms were inundated with visuals portraying cars afloat in residential parking spaces due to the widespread flooding. Reports surfaced detailing structural damage, including the collapse of Five Furlong Road connecting Guindy and Velachery, as well as the roof of a nearby petrol pump being affected. The cricketer, a valuable contributor to the Super Kings’ title-winning squad earlier in the year, voiced his apprehension for the challenging situation.

Maheesh Theekshana, boasting 23 wickets in 22 games at an economy rate of 7.77, was retained by the Super Kings ahead of the auction. In response to the circumstances, Theekshana’s fellow cricketers also expressed their concerns. Dinesh Karthik, the captain of Tamil Nadu, urged residents of Chennai to prioritize safety, extending gratitude to officials working tirelessly. Ashwin Ravichandran acknowledged the severity of the situation, urging everyone to stay safe amidst the anticipated continuous rainfall.
