Shamar Joseph, Naseem among internationals shortlisted for SA20 auction

Naseem Shah, Josh Little, Josh Hull, Shamar Joseph, and Josh Little are fast bowlers who will be available for bid in the 2025 SA20 auction. The shortlist consists of nearly 200 players, including 115 South Africans, but the six teams will only be able to complete 13 seats.

The Paarl Royals have the purse to spend the most money in the auction—R11.95 million. With R8.275 million, MI Cape Town comes in second, and Pretoria Capitals with R4.575 million. The Joburg Super Kings possess R3.925 million, while the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the reigning champions, have R2.845 million. The Durban Super Giants still have R2.35 million in their coffers.

Other international draws on the shortlist are Afghanistan wrist spinner Qais Ahmad, Sri Lankan allrounder Kamindu Mendis, and New Zealand opener Martin Guptill.

“Some of the biggest names on the international T20 circuit have already signed up for season 3 and I am looking forward to see how the teams finalize their squads from this competitive auction list of players,” Graeme Smith, the former South Africa captain and current SA20 commissioner, said.

Along with fellow opener Tony de Zorzi, Reeza Hendricks, who was released by Super Kings, is arguably the most well-known South African on the shortlist. A minimum of 10 South African players, a maximum of seven foreign players, a rookie, and a wildcard player complete the requisite 19-man roster for each squad.

Every team, with the exception of the Super Kings, has revealed their wildcard selection. Dinesh Karthik, a former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, was notably selected by Paarl Royals as their wildcard. Karthik, who announced his retirement from Indian and international cricket in June of this year, will make history by being the first Indian player to play in the SA20.

The Super Kings can lock down their wildcard player until December 30.

The SA20 2025 tournament, which will clash with the Big Bash League of Australia, the ILT20 of the United Arab Emirates, and the Super Smash of New Zealand, will start on January 9 following the auction on October 1.
