Jeremy Doku set to sign for Manchester City

(Football news) The Belgian international, who this summer was linked to a number of Premier League clubs, is now expected to sign with the league’s reigning champions. Riyad Mahrez, who departed Man City for Saudi Arabia following the team’s treble-winning season, is being replaced by a winger.

Doku, following Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol as this transfer window’s third summer addition, would head to the Etihad Stadium if he were to complete the transfer. In addition to the six league goals he scored last year, Doku scored for Rennes in their inaugural Ligue 1 match against Metz.

Stay or leave? Cole Palmer, a winger for Manchester City, has a critical few weeks ahead that could determine how far his budding career goes. The 21-year-old has undoubtedly shown off his skills while wearing City blue this season, scoring for his team in games against the UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield this month.

The fact that Palmer played a key role in leading England’s U21 team to a victory in the European Championship earlier this summer further demonstrates his winning spirit.  But will that winning aura be with City or another team now that both the player and manager Pep Guardiola are raising concerns about the winger’s future?

After all, in City’s first two games of the current season, Palmer played 10 minutes of Premier League football. The player knows that staying put and playing is the best course of action this summer.

“Obviously the best scenario is to stay at City and play,” Palmer said after Man City’s Super Cup win. “But obviously you know what the competition is like, if they bring someone in…”

But with West Ham showing interest in Doku and City looking to turn to the 21-year-old, is this the point at which Palmer finally says enough is enough? The summer transfer of Bernardo Silva from Manchester City has been abandoned by Paris Saint-Germain.

The French champions believed they were close to a deal with the 29-year-old, who had been one of their top targets, but they now recognise and appreciate the fact that the player is not for sale.

Given that Silva still has two years left on his current City contract, they anticipate the Portugal international to sign a new one. Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, stated on Saturday that it was his “dream” to see Kyle Walker and Silva sign new contracts with the club.

Silva is well-known to PSG sporting director Luis Campos, with whom he previously worked at Monaco. Aymeric Laporte, a defender for Man City, is anticipated to finalise his trade to Al Nassr.

The teams have reached an agreement on a £25 million transfer fee for the 29-year-old, who moved to City from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018 for £57 million. Following a medical, the three-year contract’s terms will be ready for the Spaniard to sign.
