India Women vs West Indies women

(Cricket news) India women have been performing very well in the tri series in South Africa. Their last group stage game was an 8 wicket win over the West Indies women. Now with 3 wins and a no result, India comfortably are on top of the table and will take on hosts South Africa in the final.

India women made one change as Renuka Singh Thakur finally came back in the side for Radha Yadav. West Indies women made 4 changes as Zaida James, Djenaba Joseph, Trishan Holder and Jannillea Glasgow who played the Under 19 world cup replaced Stafanie Taylor, Chinelle Henry, Shakera Selman and Chedean Nation.

Batting first West Indies women’s woes continued as they could only manage to get 94/6 in their 20 overs. Skipper Hayley Matthews who has been up and down the order throughout the series, came to open the batting this time. She was the lone warrior with her run a ball 34 including 5 fours. Deepti Sharma was once again incredible as she took 3 wickets for 11 runs out of which 2 scalps were in the powerplay.

Pooja Vastrakar on her return from injury bowled a really good spell of 2/19. Rajeshwari Gayakwad also picked up a wicket and only gave away 9 runs in her 4 overs. India’s bowling attack looks pretty set and this may be the correct combination to go for in the World Cup.

Chasing a mere 95 runs, India Women sent Jemimah Rodrigues to open with Smriti Mandhana while Yastika Bhatia dropped down the order. Rodrigues showed her worth as she made 42 off just 39 balls hitting 5 boundaries. The innings was important for her after a bad run of form and it also showed that she is the most comfortable batting in the top 3.

Harmanpreet Kaur also played a stable knock scoring 32 off 33 balls hitting 4 boundaries. India Women haven’t been challenged in the series so far but they have still done a good job. Adapting to the conditions before the World Cup is the main goal of this series and India seem to have done that.
