Batting and fielding let India down as they lose 1st ODI against Bangladesh

(Cricket news) The Indian team is in one of the worst positions in terms of consistency. The World Cup exit was followed by the disappointing New Zealand tour. Now men in blue have lost the 1st ODI against Bangladesh by 1 wicket. India do have injury problems as just before the match Rishabh Pant was removed from the squad while Axar Patel was not considered for selection presumably due to an injury. KL kept wickets and batted at number 4 while Kuldeep Sen made his ODI debut.

India’s batting really let them down as apart from KL Rahul none of the batters got going. Rahul scored 73 off 70 balls to get India to a total of 186. The visitors had multiple collapses as the pitch had uneven bounce throughout. Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer and Washington Sundar got off to decent starts but couldn’t capitalise.

Shakib Al Hasan was incredible with the ball as he picked up 5 for 36 in his 10 overs. Ebadot Hossain got 5 scalps while Mehidy Hasan chipped in with a wicket. Indian batters just didn’t look settled and it was almost like they couldn’t read the Bangladesh bowling. The hosts were excellent in the field as they took a couple of good catches.

Despite not having a good enough total to defend, the Indian bowlers did an excellent job. They kept picking up wickets at regular intervals and didn’t give away easy runs. Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan played decent cameos but India pulled it back in the middle overs. Mohammed Siraj continued his incredible white ball form as he picked up 3 for 32 in his 10 overs. The seamer was really good with the new ball and came back to bowl a good spell with the old ball as well. Kuldeep Sen and Washington Sundar picked up 2 scalps each while Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur also chipped in with a wicket.

India looked to have sealed the match when Bangladesh were 136/9, still requiring 51 runs. But Mehidy Hasan played an incredible knock of 38 off 39 balls and led the Bangla tigers to a famous win. India did give him a couple of lifelines as KL Rahul dropped a catch and Washington Sundar didn’t see a catch that was coming towards him and hence didn’t make up the ground. Rohit Sharma’s will be looking to comeback in the next ODI but their performance will have to significantly improve.
