(Cricket news) Bangladesh beat India by 5 runs in the 2nd ODI to seal the series. It was another disappointing outing for the visitors but the men in blue had its moments throughout the game. India made a couple changes as they brought in Axar Patel who had recovered from his injury along with Umran Malik. Shahbaz Ahmed had to miss out to make way for Axar while Kuldeep Sen wasn’t considered due to an injury. Liton Das won the toss and elected to bat first.
Indian bowlers started really well as Bangladesh lost 6 wickets after just 69 runs in 19 overs. After that Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan brought Bangladesh back into the game. The pair added 148 runs which rescued the home side from a really bad situation. Mahmudullah scored 77 off 96 balls hitting 7 fours as he played 2nd fiddle. Mehidy Hasan was unbeaten on 100 off just 83 balls as he took the Bangla tigers to a total of 271. His innings consisted of 8 boundaries and 4 maximums.
Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj picked up 2 wickets each while Washington Sundar got 3 scalps. Deepak Chahar had to go off injured after bowling just 3 overs after he injured his hamstring. After another good start India crumbled in the middle overs and at the death.
India’s batting was once again a let down as it collapsed. Rohit Sharma injured his thumb while fielding and had to go to the hospital to get stitches, so he did not open the batting. India were 68/4 inside 18 overs losing Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar and KL Rahul. Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer then got India back into the game with a 107 run partnership.
Iyer continued his incredible ODI form as he scored 82 off 102 balls hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes. Axar Patel on the other hand accelerated things with a run a ball 56 as he hit 2 boundaries and a maximum. India then lost both of them in quick succession to swing things back in Bangladesh’s favor.
Rohit Sharma did eventually come into bat despite his injury at number 9. He didn’t look too comfortable but still pulled off something incredible. The Indian captain scored an unbeaten 51 off just 28 balls hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes. He almost chased down the target as India only fell 5 runs short of reaching the target. Rohit’s gutsy innings was a positive in what has been a disappointing series. Now to make matters worse the captain along with Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Sen have been ruled out of the 3rd ODI. Rohit Sharma may even have to miss the Test series which is a massive loss for India.
