Flick immediately turned things around, leading Barcelona to a remarkable domestic triple, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.  Under his direction, the squad adopted a lively, aggressive style of play that both delighted spectators and produced results.

 Barcelona dominated the league, finishing first with only six losses and an astonishing 102 goals—the most in Europe’s top five leagues this season.  Flick’s contribution was also acknowledged on a monthly basis, with three La Liga Coach of the Month awards this season.

In the final vote, Flick defeated Manuel Pellegrini of Real Betis, Jose Bordalas of Getafe, Manolo Gonzalez of RCD Espaanyol, Michel of Girona FC, Ernesto Valverde of Athletic Club, and Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid to win the coveted prize.
