Will Ferran Torres be a good fit at FC Barcelona under Xavi?

(Football news) Barcelona is going through one of the toughest periods in their history. They currently sit 8th on the La Liga table, 18 points behind League leaders Real Madrid. The most disappointing thing was failing to make it to the knockouts of the Champions League. They will now play the Europa League Round of 32 against Napoli.

After being eliminated from the Europa League, president Joan Laporta in a video assured the fans that the club will sign players in January despite their difficult financial situation. Sergio Aguero's sudden retirement from football opens up a position for a striker as currently Luuk de Jong is the only no. 9 fit to play.  Barcelona have been heavily linked with Ferran Torres, the Manchester City striker is currently out with an injury but still remains a January target for Xavi.

Ferran Torres has already proved himself in the La Liga during his spell with Valencia. The Spaniard could be exactly what the club needs right now. Torres can play anywhere in the front 3 which makes him a good player to have especially with the injury woes at Barcelona. Xavi already has the likes of Ansu Fati, Martin Braithwaite, Ousmane Dembélé, Memphis Depay, Philippe Coutinho and Luuk De Jong at his disposal.

Torres has been in and out of Pep Guardiola's team since his move from Valencia in 2020. The Spaniard is a regular member of the national team under former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique who uses him as a striker or occasionally on the right. Xavi might want to play him on the right when everyone is fit with Depay through the center unless he chooses to go with two strikers up front. It is very clear that Xavi needs reinforcements. Some players might have to be sold to generate funds. Frenkie De Jong is one of the names who could be sold for a significant amount of money.
