What would have happened if Allegri had taken the Real Madrid job?

(Football news) Massimiliano Allegri in a recent interview stated that he had signed a deal with Real Madrid before this season but later retracted and joined Juventus so that he could live close to his son who lives in Turin. Presumably it was after that when Florentino Perez agreed a deal to bring back Carlo Ancelotti.

Real Madrid were in a difficult situation after Zinedine Zidane had left the club after a trophyless season. Carlo Ancelotti couldn't have been the club's fortune and Allegri was definitely ahead of him in the pecking order. Allegri then re-joined Juventus where he is doing a decent job in a rebuilding phase. Real Madrid on the other hand are having a decent season where they are comfortable on the top of the La Liga table and are also in the UCL quarter finals. Los Blancos also won the Spanish Super Cup earlier this year.

Carlo Ancelotti has come under scrutiny for his tactics and his refusal to rotate the players despite having an aging squad. Allegri unlike Ancelotti is definitely the go to guy to rebuild a squad as he did that twice at Juventus and is in the process to do it thrice. Under Allegri, Real Madrid may not be in the position they are right now but he would've definitely given some players a lot more chances to replace the old guards. There are already doubts if Ancelotti should continue at Real Madrid next season which is proof that Allegri would've been the better choice.

Ancelotti’s biggest contribution for Real Madrid is getting the best out of Vinicius Jr. The winger has improved tremendously under the Italian manager. The question is if that would have happened under Allegri and no one can know for sure which makes Ancelotti's appointment which was certainly a short term fix worth it. Ancelotti could change his ideology a little and start rotating and using the rest of his squad more which will solve many problems. Real Madrid fans can only imagine what it would've been to see Massimiliano Allegri at the Santiago Bernabeu home dugout.
