Was Tuchel right in axing Lukaku from the squad against Liverpool?

(Football news) The red hot talking point of the football world is Romelu Lukaku. The striker has been in the center of attention for the past week or so. Lukaku was axed from the squad against Liverpool after his comments in an interview supposedly upset Thomas Tuchel.

A few years ago, Romelu Lukaku, frustrated at Manchester United left for Inter Milan. In the 2 seasons at Inter Milan, the Belgian was very successful under Antonio Conte. In the summer Chelsea came calling for his services and Lukaku accepted. The Belgian publicly said that Chelsea is the only club he would've left Inter Milan for. So far this season he has had a few decent performances but has been frustrated with injuries. Lukaku in an interview said that he was not happy with the situation at Chelsea and didn't like Thomas Tuchel's tactics. In the interview Lukaku contradicted his previous comments by saying that he always thought he would go to one of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich whom he considers the best clubs in the world after Inter Milan.

He also expressed his love for Inter Milan on multiple occasions and said that he would go back there one day. The striker also said that he wouldn't have even considered leaving the Italian club if he had got his desired new contract. He also admitted to getting an offer from Manchester City and Juventus in the past.

Thomas Tuchel responded by saying that he isn't happy with the comments, especially so close to an important game. Lukaku wasn't a part of the squad against Liverpool as Tuchel said that it would bring too much noise. The game ended 2-2 at Stamford Bridge as all the four goals were scored in the first half. Chelsea created a lot of chances that they didn't finish which brings the question if leaving Lukaku out was the right decision.

Chelsea had to play Kai Havertz up front which affected their attack because it lacked the presence of a big number 9. The Blues could've won the game if Lukaku had been there and it isn't like Chelsea have other options. Tuchel could have settled the dispute for the time being and focused on the game and dealt with it later. The German obviously chose not to do that and the ultimate winner was Manchester City who are now 10 points clear at the top.

The argument is that Lukaku was clearly out of order to publicly talk about the situation but Chelsea have spent way too much money on him to just exile him from the first team. Tuchel has also said that Lukaku is still a Chelsea player and can make his way back into the team. This isn't the first time that Lukaku has done something of this sort. He still talks about Manchester United in a bad light saying that it was an unhappy time for him.

While at United he once leaked training statistics on his social media to just prove that he is fast in order to take a jibe at his critics. It is unclear what Lukaku might need to do in order to get back in the side and potentially win back the fans. An apology could be received well by fans or it might look forced instead of genuine. Good performances on the pitch will definitely turn things around for the Belgian.
