Valencia sign free agent Edinson Cavani on a two year deal

(Football news) Valencia have officially signed Edinson Cavani on a two year contract. The Uruguayan was present at Valencia's home against Atletico and he is likely to start training in the next couple of days. Cavani is Valencia's 7th signing of the summer so far and he may not be the last. Valencia beat Villarreal and Boca Juniors to get the 35 year old's signature. Valencia finished 9th in the La Liga table last season following which chairman Peter Lim and manager Jose Bordalas were sacked. It is a new beginning for the Spanish club under new manager Gennaro Gatusso.

Valencia have also been active in sales as they have sold 4 players including talisman Goncalo Guedes. Cavani isn't Guedes replacement but he will be a great asset to the side. Cavani had a decent period at Manchester United but he never managed to stay fit for a run of games which is something Valencia would've been very aware of. He definitely cannot play week in week out and is likely to be more of an impact player who will start certain games. Hugo Durro has been doing well for Valencia since his arrival last year and playing with someone like Cavani will be a great learning experience for the 22 year old.

Cavani will bring his experience and pure goalscoring instinct at the club. He is the kind of player who can play any role the manager wants him to. Cavani had a few other options but he chose Valencia. His decision has been fueled with his desire to play in the La Liga for the first time. Cavani's period at Manchester United was successful in patches but he didn't win any silverware. Last year Valencia missed out on the Copa del Rey after a penalty shootout defeat against Real Betis. This year they have another chance to win the cup and they will also play the Spanish Super Cup in January.
