Union hold Bayern to a draw while Eintracht thrash Leipzig

(Football news) Defending champions Bayern Munich stumbled to their second 1-1 draw in a row as they could come away with only a point against an in-form Union Berlin. The Bavarians last weekend also drew 1-1 against Borussia Monchengladbach and they travel to Inter for their Champions League group opener next week. Bayern are third on 11 points which is as many as Union. The hosts are enjoying their best ever Bundesliga start and looking for their first win over Bayern as they were never intimidated by the champions and went in front through Bundesliga’s leading scorer Sheraldo Becker with a perfect volley at the far post.

Their lead was short-lived with Joshua Kimmich thundering a low drive into the far corner three minutes later. The champions came agonisingly close to a second goal in the 37th minute when Jamal Musiala dribbled his way into the box and flicked a sensational ball to send Leroy Sane through, only for his shot to be blocked by Riis Ronnow. Union's backline was solid as they have the second best defensive record in the league behind Bayern. The hosts were close to taking the lead on the break and forced a superb one-handed save out of Manuel Neuer in the 75th who palmed Jamie Leweling's shot wide after his fine run. Union's keeper Ronnow matched it with a sensational save of his own, tipping a looping Sadio Mane header over the bar in stoppage time to protect the draw

Eintracht Frankfurt were on rampaging mode as they fired four goals past RB Leipzig on Saturday to climb up the Bundesliga table and send their visitors deeper into crisis ahead of their Champions League group stage matches. With both teams in action in the Champions League next week, it was Europa League winners Frankfurt who came all guns blazing as they scored goals within six minutes, Daichi Kamada and Sebastian Rode's deflected shot in the first half gave them a comfortable 2-0 lead before the break.

With the Leipzig defence struggling and Frankfurt constantly finding ways to break through, the hosts went onto add two more after the break with Tuta's tap-in after keeper Peter Gulasci made a good save from Mario Goetze’s shot and an 84th-minute Rafael Borre penalty put the final nail in the coffin. Eintracht now face Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday as they are currently on eight points, four behind leaders Freiburg. Leipzig, who take on Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday, dropped to 11th place in the table on five points after managing just one win in their first five league games.
