UCL: Inter Milan take on Plzen while AC Milan face Dinamo Zagreb

(Football news) Both the teams were beaten on the opening day of their Champions League season as Inter Milan and Czech champions Viktoria Plzen meet at the Stadion mesta Plzne. Since being dethroned as Italian champions by AC Milan in May and losing the Coppa Italia final to Juventus last year, Simone Inzaghi's second season in charge had begun on a brighter note, but recent results meant that pressure was on to produce three points at home to Torino.

They are sitting only eighth in the Serie A standings before the game got underway as Inzaghi's side were within moments of settling for a draw against their rugged opponents, but a moment of inspiration from Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic finally earned the home side a much needed victory. Inter have won each of their last seven Serie A home games, but their next assignment sends them to the Czech Republic, where they won 3-1 against Slavia Prague in 2019, on their only previous visit in the Champions League to the Czech Republic. Given such a tough group this week's encounter could already be a decider for third place in the Group, but if the Nerazzurri instead want to push for a top-two place, then victory is almost a necessity.

Viktoria Plzen possible starting lineup:

Stanek; Holik, Hejda, Pernica, Havel; Kalvach, Bucha; Sykora, Vlkanova, Mosquera; Chory

Inter Milan possible starting lineup:

Onana; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Mkhitaryan, Darmian; Correa, Martinez

After causing a seismic shock in the Champions League's by beating Chelsea which eventually led to the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, Dinamo Zagreb target another major scalp as they meet AC Milan at the San Siro. Stefano Pioli's men have enjoyed back-to-back wins as they followed their derby day victory against Inter with a gritty comeback away to Sampdoria on Saturday night. Demonstrating great character, Milan played the second half with only 10 men at Stadio Luigi Ferraris as starman Rafael Leao received a second booking for raising his boot dangerously high.

With their main player red carded, veteran striker Olivier Giroud stepped up to salvage three points. Milan now subsequently sit third in Serie A as they were separated only from the top of the standings by goal difference, and face Napoli at the weekend. They return to San Siro as they aim to improve an awful home record in the Champions League during the past decade: no wins from six matches; their last victory came in 2013 when they beat Celtic in 2013.

AC Milan possible starting lineup:

Maignan; Dest, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez; Tonali, Bennacer; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Leao; Giroud

Dinamo Zagreb possible starting lineup:

Livakovic; Ristovski, Sutalo, Peric; Misic; Moharrami, Ljubicic, Ademi, Ivanusec, Orsic; Petkovic
