UCL: Inter Milan get a comfortable victory over Viktoria Plzen

(Football news) Edin Dzeko scored one and then went on to create another goal as Inter Milan cruised past Viktoria Plzen in 2-0 victory in the Champions League Group C match. Inter controlled the match from the get go and opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Joaquin Correa beautifully picked out an unmarked Dzeko whose right-footed shot in the penalty area beat Plzen keeper Jindrich Stanek. The Czech side spent most of the game defending and faced a real challenge when Pavel Bucha was sent off in the 61st minute for a dangerous tackle on Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The visitors then doubled their lead 10 minutes later after a counter attack when Dzeko this time turned provider with a clinical pass that allowed Denzel Dumfries to slot home an easy goal for Inter. Plzen brought on some attacking players after they went down to 10 men but never really threatened Samir Handanovic and finished the match with only one shot on target, with the visitors controlling nearly 70 percent of possession. After losing 2-0 to Bayern Munich in their first match, Inter moved to three points, while Plzen remained pointless after their opening two games.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said with three matches in six days, he needed to rotate his squad against a Plzen side that played physical football throughout the match."We are happy, because we knew we couldn't underestimate our opponents and we didn't. The boys were good. They remained focused and I congratulated them in the changing room after the final whistle."

Marseille's chances of reaching the round of 16 of the Champions League were dented when they were comfortably beaten 1-0 at home by Eintracht Frankfurt as it was their second defeat in as many games for the French side. Marseille fell victim to a Jesper Lindstrom second-half goal that put the Europa League champions Eintracht in third place in Group D on three points. Marseille initially enjoyed some early possession and dominated the first half until Valentin Rongier blundered and allowed Lindstrom to fire Eintracht Frankfurt's first goal in the Champions League.

Dimitri Payet was handed a rare start by new coach Igor Tudor as he was replaced by Alexis Sanchez. Frankfurt continued to threaten and Daichi Kamada thought he had scored a goal after yet another counter-attack but the goal was ruled out for offside. Marsellie lacked the sharpness as they couldn’t reciprocate their domestic form where they have won six and drawn one into Europe's premium club competition, in which they have now lost all their last 16 matches.
