Struggling Liverpool hoping to secure three points against Bournemouth

(Football news) After an embarrassing defeat to Manchester United last week, Liverpool are currently 16th in the Premier League table, failing to win a single game so far. The Reds have drawn two and lost one out of the three games played and Jurgen Klopp’s team will be desperate to finally secure the three points and get their season well and truly underway. Their opponents Bournemouth are one place ahead in 15th, having collected three points from their opening three games.

Liverpool drew their first two matches to Fulham and Crystal Palace before travelling to Old Trafford where they endured a 2-1 defeat at the hands of fierce rivals Manchester United. As things stand, the Reds are already seven points behind league leaders Arsenal and five points behind Manchester City and the pressure is piling on, especially considering that a tricky game against Newcastle United is on the horizon after which they face Everton in the Merseyside derby. Bournemouth have a poor record against Liverpool, losing each of their last six games in the league and their last win coming against the Reds in December 2016.

The Cherries defeated Aston Villa 2-0 on August 6th but went on to concede seven goals by losing to Manchester City and Arsenal. After their match against Liverpool, Bournemouth will face Wolves before the month ends and will hope to get more points on the table. In team news, Liverpool will be without Darwin Nunez who is suspended because of a red card while the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ibrahima Konate and Calvin Ramsay are injured. Substitute goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher remains doubtful for the match.

For Bournemouth, the likes of Joe Rothwell, Ryan Fredericks, David Brooks and Junior Stanislas will be unavailable due to injury but Jamal Lowe should be back in contention after recovering from illness. Manager Scott Parker has revealed that Dominic Solanke is hoping to feature after recovering from an ankle injury. Despite Liverpool’s recent struggles, the Reds have enough quality to finally secure the three points and kickstart their Premier League season.
