Serie A: Milan face Fiorentina while Inter go away to Udinese

(Football news) Milan face their tough test on paper against Fiorentina as they look to maintain their 2 point lead over Inter in the race for the Scudetto. Stefano Pioli's men arrived at Stadio Olimpico last week having seen a 13-match unbeaten run ended by their city rivals Inter, as subsequently they crashed out of the Coppa Italia also, but they bounced back and beat fellow top-six side Lazio 2-1 in dramatic fashion. Since the beginning of 2022, Pioli's side have  seen their goals dry up because of Ibrahimovic being sidelined for several weeks, and others failing to fully fire in the final third but they their defence was water tight during this barren run of goals

AC Milan have conceded just eight goals in 15 league games since the turn of the year, only Liverpool have let in fewer goals across the top five European leagues during that time. The Rossoneri have had clean sheets in each of their last three home fixtures in Serie A and will hope for a fourth clean sheet on the bounce for the first time in over three years, as they attempt to inch closer to their first Scudetto since 2011.

AC Milan possible starting lineup:

Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Messias, Kessie, Leao; Giroud

Fiorentina possible starting lineup:

Terracciano; Odriozola, Igor, Milenkovic, Biraghi; Bonaventura, Amrabat, Duncan; Gonzalez, Cabral, Saponara

Inter had the chance to overtake AC Milan mid week but suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Bologna as they now go away to Udinese hoping that AC Milan slip up. That puts arch-rivals Milan in control of the title race, as Inter have the advantage of a better head-to-head record should the teams finish level on points. Bologna put an abrupt end to Inter's 11-game unbeaten run on the road in Serie A. Simone Inzaghi will hopefully motivate their team including a tearful Radu who was at fault for the second goal against Bologna as they hope to avoid sinking to a second  away loss in a row for the first time in over two years.

The Nerazzurri had won each of their five matches prior to that setback, including a crucial victory over Milan to seal a place in the Coppa Italia final. In the process of winning six of their last eight games against Udinese in Serie A, Inter have not conceded in seven of those matches; as Udinese’s last win in this fixture came back in December 2017.

Udinese possible starting lineup:

Silvestri; Becao, Mari, Perez; Molina, Arslan, Walace, Pereyra, Udogie; Deulofeu, Success

Inter Milan possible starting lineup:

Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, D'Ambrosio; Darmian, Barella, Brozovic, Vidal, Perisic; Martinez, Dzeko
