Serie A: Inter take on AS Roma while Milan face Lazio

(Football news) Inter take on AS Roma which could have tremendous repercussions on the Scudetto race this season. Inter reached the Coppa Italia final in midweek with a Derby win over AC Milan. They would return to the top of the Serie A table with their fifth successive victors. AS Roma kept their unbeaten run going with a late equaliser at Napoli and are ending the season on a high as they also have Conference League semifinals with Leicester City also. Despite trailing Milan by two points, the Nerazzurri still have a game in hand which could be crucial  for the Scudetto. Napoli are yet to be totally discounted out of the title race but their defeat to Roma makes things look bleak.

Inter now face their toughest fixture on paper, but Inzaghi’s men will be confident as they are unbeaten in their last nine league matches against Roma and have not lost against them at San Siro since 2017. The capital club on the other hand are in the form of their lives and have become Serie A’s most durable outfit going without defeat for 12 games while winning seven times in the process. That is their best streak in a single campaign since 2016, but it was only kept intact by a brilliant Stephan El Shaarawy's stoppage-time equaliser at the Stadio Maradona on Monday. That result elevated them to 5th and only 5 points behind Juventus in 4 place but whatever the outcome, Jose Mourinho’s side have exceeded all the expectations.

Inter Milan possible starting lineup:
Handanovic; De Vrij, Skriniar, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Perisic; Martinez, Dzeko

Roma possible starting lineup:
Patricio; Mancini, Smalling, Ibanez; Karsdorp, Cristante, Oliveira, Zalewski; Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan; Abraham

AC Milan who are chasing their first title since 2011 face a very tricky away test to Lazio, which could potentially decide their faith in the Scudetto race. The Rossoneri will arrive at Stadio Olimpico having seen a 13-match unbeaten run ended by their city rivals Inter in the Coppa Italia semi finals, while their hosts are heading into the match having won four of their last six Serie A games to stay in the race for European football next year. The Rossoneri have relied on an unbreachable defence to stay undefeated in the Serie A, their streak of six successive clean sheets in the league is the club's best since 1994.

AC Milan have conceded only seven top-flight goals in 2022, only Liverpool have conceded fewer goals throughout the top five European leagues, so Lazio have a major task at hand if they are to cause a major upset on Sunday. But their captain and talisman Ciro Immobile has been bailing out his side constantly, as he moved to 25 Serie A goals for the season with a dramatic late equaliser to deny his old club Torino victory. He followed that performance with a hat-trick against Genoa, a week earlier, and the Italy international remains two goals clear of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic in the Capocannoniere standings with just five games left to play. He will be the key man against this watertight AC Milan defence, who will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing defeat to their city rivals

Lazio possible starting lineup:
Strakosha; Lazzari, Felipe, Acerbi, Marusic; Alberto, Leiva, Milinkovic-Savic; Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni

AC Milan possible starting lineup:
Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Leao; Giroud
